Which Neat Meeting Room Solution Is Right for Your Room?
Neat now provides meeting room technology covering everything from individual workspaces and focus rooms through to larger conference rooms and boardrooms.
However, the correct Neat device should not be selected by participant count alone.
Two six-person meeting rooms can require completely different systems. One may have participants sitting relatively close to the display around a compact table, while another may have a long narrow table placing the furthest participant several metres from the camera and microphones.
GT therefore considers the physical room, seating positions, camera distance, acoustic environment and way the room will actually be used before selecting the Neat technology.
Neat Bar BYOD, Neat Bar Generation 2 & Neat Bar Pro
NEAT BAR BYOD
Neat Bar BYOD provides a straightforward route into professional laptop-based video conferencing for small and medium meeting spaces.
Instead of running the meeting application natively on the room system, the user's laptop runs Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Google Meet, Webex or another conferencing application while using the Neat Bar's professional camera, microphones and loudspeakers.
The direct Neat Bar BYOD connection normally uses USB for the room camera and audio together with HDMI for video.
Where a cleaner user experience is required, GT can design the connectivity so that employees and visitors are presented with one USB-C connection at the meeting table, using an appropriately specified docking, switching or extension solution.
GT deployed this approach at ZILO Technology's Canary Wharf office, integrating Neat Bar BYOD with a Lindy DST-Pro system to provide users with a single USB-C connection at the meeting table, including laptop charging.
This makes Neat Bar BYOD particularly relevant where organisations need to accommodate different laptop types and conferencing platforms without installing a dedicated room application.
For organisations creating new native Microsoft Teams Rooms, Zoom Rooms or Google Meet spaces, GT would normally evaluate Neat Bar Generation 2 because it provides Neat's newer hardware platform together with native room and BYOD capabilities.
Neat Bar Generation 2
Neat Bar Generation 2, also commonly searched for as Neat Bar 2, is one of the strongest options in the current Neat portfolio for small and medium meeting rooms.
It combines the camera, microphones, loudspeakers and meeting-room processing within one compact front-of-room device.
This reduces the number of separate components required around the displays and helps create a clean, easy-to-manage meeting room.
Its 50 MP camera and 113-degree horizontal field of view provide wide room coverage, while Neat's intelligent camera processing can dynamically frame participants throughout the meeting.
Neat Bar Generation 2 can support dual 4K displays in compatible configurations.
One of its most useful capabilities is single-cable USB-C BYOD.
A compatible laptop can connect using USB-C and access the Neat camera, microphones and loudspeakers while also sending video to the meeting-room display.
This allows employees or visitors to open Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Google Meet, Webex or another conferencing application directly from their laptop while using the professional AV technology installed in the room.
Depending on the current room platform and configuration, Neat Bar Generation 2 can be paired with Neat Pad Generation 2 or Neat Pad Pro to provide meeting-room control.
Neat Bar Pro
Neat Bar Pro is designed for meeting spaces requiring greater camera reach, microphone coverage and system integration capability.
Its professional camera system uses two 50 MP sensors, combining wide and telephoto perspectives with up to 16× hybrid zoom.
This gives Neat Bar Pro substantially greater reach than Neat Bar Generation 2.

BYOD with Neat Bar Pro
One important difference between Neat Bar Generation 2 and Neat Bar Pro is the direct BYOD connection.
Neat Bar Generation 2 provides native single-cable USB-C BYOD, while direct BYOD with Neat Bar Pro normally requires USB for the professional camera and audio together with HDMI for laptop video.
For many boardrooms this does not need to affect the user experience.

A larger participant count does not automatically mean Neat Bar Pro is required.
GT considers the distance between the camera and the furthest participant, table width and length, camera sight lines, acoustic conditions, display arrangement and the type of meetings held in the room.
A well-designed medium meeting space may perform extremely well with Neat Bar Generation 2.
A longer room or boardroom may benefit from Neat Bar Pro because of its greater camera reach and audio capability.
A more demanding environment may require Neat Bar Pro combined with Neat Center.

The objective is not to install the most expensive Neat device.

Neat Pad Generation 2 & Neat Pad Pro
Neat Pad is an important part of the Neat meeting-room architecture because it can provide in-room meeting control or room scheduling outside the meeting space.
The current portfolio includes Neat Pad Generation 2 as the standard current-generation controller and Neat Pad Pro as the more advanced premium option.
Neat Pad Generation 2
Neat Pad Generation 2 uses an 8-inch HD touchscreen and is designed for everyday meeting-room control and scheduling applications.
Inside a compatible Neat room it can provide the familiar interface users need to start meetings, manage participants and interact with the selected conferencing platform.
It incorporates an integrated microphone that can contribute to supported room audio configurations.

Neat Pad Pro
Neat Pad Pro provides a larger 10.1-inch 1920 × 1200 touchscreen, greater processing capability and dual integrated microphones.

The newer Neat Pads should not be described as universally compatible with every previous Neat device.

Legacy Generation 1 devices have different controller compatibility requirements.

Neat BYOD Meeting Rooms
BYOD allows a user's laptop to run the meeting while accessing the professional camera, microphones, speakers and displays installed in the room.
This is valuable because organisations standardised on Microsoft Teams, Zoom or Google Meet still receive invitations from customers and partners using different meeting platforms.
Neat Bar Generation 2 provides particularly straightforward single-cable USB-C BYOD.

At Corrib Oil's headquarters in Galway, Gibb Technology modernised the main boardroom and two medium meeting rooms to create a consistent Microsoft Teams Rooms environment.
The larger boardroom uses Neat Bar Pro, Neat Center and Neat Pad, providing front-of-room video conferencing together with additional centre-of-room camera and microphone coverage.
The two medium meeting rooms use Neat Bar Generation 2, providing a simpler architecture appropriate to their physical dimensions.
GT also specified commercial displays to improve content visibility and incorporated room scheduling outside the meeting spaces.
The scheduling technology connects with Corrib Oil's Microsoft 365 environment, allowing employees to use familiar Outlook and Microsoft Teams workflows.
The project demonstrates why GT does not specify every meeting room identically.
Instead, the user experience can remain consistent while the technology is scaled to the physical requirements of each room.
ZILO Technology, Canary Wharf – Neat Bar Pro & Professional Audio
At ZILO Technology's Canary Wharf office, GT designed and delivered a bespoke workplace media environment centred around a 136-inch LG direct-view LED display.
For video collaboration, the system incorporates Neat Bar Pro and Neat Pad to provide the core Microsoft Teams Rooms experience.
The space needed to support more than conventional video meetings.
GT therefore integrated Shure Microflex neXt wireless microphones, professional audio processing, amplification and JBL loudspeakers.
This allows the environment to support normal Teams meetings, presentations, company communications and larger internal events.
Handheld and lapel microphones allow presenters to move naturally while maintaining clear audio for people in the room and participants joining remotely.
This project demonstrates how Neat Bar Pro can form the conferencing core of a wider professional AV system, rather than operating only as a standalone video bar.
ZILO Technology – Single-Cable Neat Bar BYOD
GT has also deployed Neat Bar BYOD with a Lindy DST-Pro USB-C solution at ZILO's Canary Wharf workplace.
The objective was to retain the flexibility of laptop-based meetings while making the room as simple as possible for users.
Instead of asking users to understand several separate AV connections, the meeting table provides a single USB-C connection.
The supporting AV infrastructure handles the remaining connectivity while also providing supported laptop charging.
The project demonstrates the difference between supplying a BYOD video bar and engineering the complete user experience from the meeting table to the front-of-room system.
Neat Center – Centre-of-Room Camera & Microphone Coverage
Even a high-performance front-of-room camera faces one fundamental meeting-room problem.
People do not spend an entire meeting looking towards the display.
During natural conversation, participants turn towards colleagues, look down the table, speak to the person beside them or move around the room.
A front-of-room camera may therefore see the side or back of somebody's head instead of a clear face-on view.
Neat Center adds another intelligent camera and microphone position closer to the participants.
It works alongside a compatible primary Neat room system rather than replacing it.
How Does Neat Center Work?
Neat Center incorporates three camera lenses providing 360-degree visual coverage, together with a 16-element circular microphone array.
Network connectivity and power can be provided using a single Power over Ethernet connection.
This reduces the amount of cabling required around the meeting table or other selected installation location.
In a larger meeting room, Neat Bar Pro can provide the primary front-of-room conferencing system while Neat Center adds another visual and microphone perspective closer to participants.
A compatible Neat Pad can then provide room control.
This allows the different Neat devices to work together to create more useful participant perspectives during supported meetings.
Multiple Neat Center Systems
Compatible Generation 2 systems can support more advanced Neat Center configurations.
Current supported designs can use up to two Neat Centers with selected Generation 2 Neat systems, subject to software and conferencing-platform compatibility.

Where Should Neat Center Be Installed?
The correct Neat Center location depends on the table dimensions, participant positions, front-of-room camera sight lines, display location, room lighting, network infrastructure and available PoE connectivity.
It should not simply be placed in the geometric centre of the room.
The ideal location is the position that gives the system the most useful perspective of the people participating in the meeting.
The design should also consider whether displays, people, lighting or other room elements interfere with the desired camera views.
GT treats Neat Center as part of the wider room design rather than as a standalone accessory.

The purpose of an intelligent meeting-room camera is not simply to produce a sharp image.
Remote participants need to understand who is in the room, who is speaking and how people are responding.

A high-resolution camera cannot compensate for participants who are difficult for remote attendees to hear.
